1.
Will I have to buy additional leads to connect with all 2001 and newer,
European-sold petrol cars?
No. The
Gendan GCR10 is supplied with a 16-pin diagnostic connector which is standard
on all 2001 and newer European-sold petrol vehicles.
2.
Will I have to buy updates every year to keep the Code Reader current?
No. Software
updates are free to download and install via the Internet, and the
lead required to do so is included with the tool.
All GCR10s leave our warehouse with the latest software version already installed.
3.
I’m not a professional mechanic, even with the Gendan GCR10, will I have
to take my car to an authorised service centre for repairs?
That depends
on your skill set and your vehicle’s problem. The main point of the tool
is to help you figure out what service, if any, your vehicle requires.
If you don't have the tools or mechanical skills to perform the work,
then at least you'll be armed with the knowledge of what the problem really
is. In those cases where the Check Engine/Service Engine Soon indicator
is illuminated for something as trivial as a loose fuel cap, you can prevent
the costly and time-consuming trip to an authorised service centre.
4.
How do I know if my vehicle is OBDII/EOBD compliant?
If your
petrol passenger vehicle was manufactured for sale in Europe, with the
model year of 2001 or newer (and in some cases 2000), you have the EOBD
/ OBDII interface. EOBD diesel vehicles start with the 2004 model years.
5.
What is CAN?
CAN is short
for Controller Area Network. It will be the required electrical interface
for all vehicles beginning in the model year of 2008. Some vendors began
using CAN exclusively in the model year of 2004 (Ford, Jaguar, Mazda,
Mercedes, and Nissan). While other manufacturers implemented it selectively
in their vehicles beginning in the 2004 model year (Porsche, SAAB, and
Toyota).
6.
Is the Gendan GCR10 compatible with any pre-2001, European-sold petrol
vehicles?
The Gendan
GCR10 will communicate with most petrol Ford cars back to 1997 (fitted
with the EEC-V ECU) and some Jaguar cars back to 1995 (Start of X300 series).
7.
Will the Gendan GCR10 reset service indicators?
No. It is not designed to reset service indicators.
8.
Will the Gendan GCR10 communicate with ABS, Airbag or Automatic Transmission
systems?
No. The
Gendan GCR10 will only communicate with the Engine Management and Emissions
systems and the ‘Check Engine’ light. It is not designed to communicate
with other vehicle systems or their associated warning lights.
9.
Does the Gendan GCR10 display only the fault code number on-screen or
does it also display the definition?
The Gendan
GCR10 contains several thousand fault code definitions. If the code definition
is contained in the tool, it will display the definition along with the
code number. However, if the definition is not available in the tool,
it will still provide the code number on screen.
The Gendan GCR10 can also display the freeze-frame data from a fault code
- this is a snapshot of the engine sensor values at the instant a DTC
was recorded by the car's ECU.
We offer an online look-up facility for code definitions not present in
the Gendan GCR10, please see the following link to our code bank: Gendan
DTCodebank
10.
Will the Gendan GCR10 allow me to change vehicle settings, parameters
or engine maps?
No. The
Gendan GCR10 will reset the vehicle ECU and clear stored fault codes.
It will not modify vehicle settings, parameters or engine maps.
